why foster with us?
support and rewards
finance and allowances

There are many other rewards to being a foster carer. As well as the support and allowances you’ll receive, you’ll also get the following in Carmarthenshire:
- Pre- and post-approval training.
- Bespoke training.
- Support whenever you need it: 24-hour, 7 days a week.
- Membership to The Fostering Network and New Family Social.
- Discounts with recognised partners, including Cadw.
the foster wales national commitment
Plus, there’s more! Every Welsh Local Authority has signed up to the National Commitment, an agreed package of training, support and rewards. All Foster Wales foster carers have access to this package, so you will benefit from:
We’ll work with you, the children in your care and every professional around the child, as part of one team. The Local Authority team. As a foster carer, you’ll always be included, valued and respected as you are vital to everything we do. We always work together, no matter what. Our priority is to give children, and their families, the best possible future. And we do this together.
By joining us, you’re helping children to stay in their local area – enabling them to stay connected to friends and family.
learning and development
At Foster Wales Carmarthenshire, we nurture your growth – learning and development are a significant part of what we offer. The framework and services we deliver are consistent throughout Wales, so you benefit from a shared, considered and proven support package.
We provide everything you need to enable you to fully meet the needs of the children in your care, setting you up to be confident and capable.
Through fostering with us, you’ll receive an individual personal learning record and development plan to help you plan for the future and log the progress you’re making on your journey – the transferrable skills and experiences you’ll achieve on your way.
With Foster Wales, you’re never on your own. You have a team on hand to support you at every stage, no matter what. We’re always here for you.
You’ll work closely with a skilled and professional social worker and have access to a range of support groups. These groups are beneficial as they’ll enable you to meet other foster carers. You can talk, listen and share your experiences with people in the same boat as you – people who understand. Peer support is available with every local Foster Wales team and can make a huge difference.
Professional support is available too. We’re fully committed to working as a team with our foster carers, which means always being on hand for anything you need.
You’ll find new communities through Foster Wales, be it support groups for men who foster to specialist kinds of foster carers. You’ll be surrounded by people who understand.
We stay connected.
At Foster Wales Carmarthenshire, we value connection. You’ll be invited to events and activities to connect you to other foster families, giving you new experiences, memories and the chance to form new friendships.
You’ll also be able to access a wealth of information and advice online, so you’ll never feel alone on your journey.
When you join Foster Wales, we cover the cost of your membership to The Fostering Network (TFN) and the Association for Fostering and Adoption (AFA) Cymru. Why? We appreciate just how much these specialist fostering organisations can help you – the independent support, private advice guidance and wealth of other benefits they offer are truly priceless.
